There are a wide variety of specialty courses available through East Coast Divers. Our courses are developed by internationally recognized Scuba training agencies and then enhanced by our staff to exceed the highest standards set forth in the diving industry. The New England diving environment can be one of the most challenging and rewarding diving experiences worldwide. To prepare our divers to not only be comfortable but to also excel in these conditions our training is targeted at these situations.

Our courses are dived into two categories to help you find the courses that are right for you. While many of our courses require you to gain experience in an actual diving environment some classes, such as Nitrox, have no practical use for in water training. Because of this we divide our specialty courses into wet and dry specialties.

Wet Specialties:

Wet specialties are courses beyond open water training that require training dives in an actual diving environment such as the ocean or a pond. These courses include training in the classroom, open water and at times the pool. The requirements for each course can be found under each specialty.

Dry Specialties:

Dry specialties are courses beyond open water training that do not require dives in an actual diving environment. These courses generally only include classroom training though there may be multiple sessions in the classroom for certain courses.

Advanced Certification:

Our advanced certification is achieved after reaching a certain level of training and experience. Experience is an important part of diving. The more you practice the better you get. Because of this, there is a minimum of 24 logged dives required to qualify for advanced certification.

You must also complete at least 4 specialties 2 of which must be completed at East Coast Divers. This way you can choose the courses that are right for you. Many other advanced certifications force you to take “canned” courses that are dictated by the facility. We feel that if you have no interest in night diving or already have experience in boat diving, you should not be forced to take those specialty courses. Our advanced program allows you to choose the courses that interest you. learn more about our advanced certification here.
