Halibut point is a state park at the tip of the Cape Ann peninsula. The parking is in a maintained lot with a bathroom… kinda. It’s more like a permanent porta potty but it’s better than nothing. The walk to the site is the biggest factor in this dive. In full gear you have to walk approximately 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile, maybe more. The entry can be difficult. The site actually has a sign that reads “hazardous shoreline, enter at your own risk”. The good news is, the dive is amazing.
OPTIMAL TIDE: Any tide can work. Better dive earlier in the day do to the time it takes to walk.
DIFFICULTY: Higher than most sites due to the strain of the walk entry and then a deep dive and possible current

DIVE DESCRIPTION: The Dive here is really unbelievable. The entry is a scramble over standard rocky shoreline. Be sure to have you BC inflated and reg in your mouth for the tricky parts. Once in, swim out to sea in almost any direction and you will have a nice dive. The bottom resembled large layered slabs of rock and continue to drop deeper and deeper. At 100 yards out you can be in 70 to 80 feet of water.
PARKING: Parking is easy. On season be sure to pay for the lot at the pay station. It’s only a few bucks.
