How to Catch More Lobster

The multi-part series...

Well, here it is. The question I get asked through the shop more than just about any other question durring the summer. "How do you catch so many lobster?" First of all I am by far not the best lobster hunter I know. But I do know some very, very good ones. I've gotten the tricks. And have done MANY research dives and tried many techniques to develop my stratagy. What does my stratagy provide? I catch on average 3-5 lobsters per dive. Somedays are better than others but I seldom come up empty. I'm putting this together as a large multi part "how to:" through the summer to allow the absorption of each piece to sink in. I will cover:

equipment and rigging
behavioural analysis of the enemy (lobsters)
site features and lobster locating
pulling and bagging
rules and regs.

These are important aspects for any lobster hunter. These tips will help you increase your numbers but remember, nothing replaces a lobstering course taught by a seasoned pro. Like the one we are painstakingly writing here at East Coast. Many hours of discusions, research, debates, and dives are going into this in depth thorough course. Well, Let's hit it!

Equipment

So lets get right into the meat and potatoes of it. You will NEED certain gear to lobster effectively. There is also other gear that you may not need, but you'd wish you had when you were out there:
