Q: Do I need my own equipment?
A: scuba is a gear intensive sport. If you want to see, move, stay warm, know how deep you are and be able to breath you need certain gear to fulfill these needs. Many of the items you need are fitted to you such as your mask and snorkel, boots, and fins. All Divers should own their own basic gear such as these items. This will make your diving FAR more comfortable and much easier.
As for the scuba gear, there are advantages and disadvantages to renting gear. First if you rent scuba gear, especially at your vacation spot, you never know what your gonna get. The gear that is rented could be anywhere from 1 to 15 years old and serviced anywhere from regularly to seldom or never. Also if you plan to dive for more than a couple years and more than a couple dives per year, it makes sense to purchase your own gear. Now if your unsure of what kind of gear you need or if buying doesn't make sense for you, rentals are always available. Our staff is always available to answer questions about gear whether it's here in the store or over the phone or email. No one here is certified less than instructor and all are very knowledgeable about all types of gear.
